Why Travelers Are Falling for This Small Historic Village in New Jersey
Step into a storybook setting filled with local charm and timeless appeal just waiting to be explored.
I love visiting historic places, but I have come to realize that old buildings and art museums aren’t always favorite travel destinations for all of my family members. So in planning recent trips, I have learned to compromise and take vacations to places that have a mix of old charm and family-friendly activities. I have recently discovered a quaint little spot that I think everyone in my group will enjoy. Historic Smithville in Galloway Township is a must-visit small historic town in New Jersey. Let me tell you all about it.

The History Behind This Charming Village
Historic Smithville is a picturesque colonial-style village that was once a stagecoach stop. In 1952, the building and the seven acres of land on which it sat were purchased by a resourceful couple named Fred and Ethel Noyes. The new owners transformed the stop first into an antique shop and later a restaurant, which they named the Smithville Inn. The historical aspect of the inn became a popular draw with visitors, and the couple decided to bring even more old buildings into town. They lovingly restored and transformed them into various restaurants and shops.

Today, these same buildings continue to attract visitors from far and near. A trip to Historic Smithville is like stepping back in time to another era. The charming village is situated just a few miles from bustling Atlantic City, but its cobblestone streets and lovely waters evoke the ambiance of a classic Hallmark movie small town.
The village features dozens of specialty shops that sell everything from candles to local honey to international gifts. There is even a pet bakery and boutique, and a store dedicated to sports fans. Historic Smithville is really the perfect place to find a unique gift or souvenir.
Young visitors will also find plenty of fun things to keep them busy. A ride on the beautiful carousel is always a must when visiting Historic Smithville. Guests can also take a paddleboat out on the river or a ride around the village on the iconic Smithville Train. And what better way to end the day than with a delicious ice cream from Scoop’s Place?
