Get Away From It All at This Remote and Beautiful Campground in South Carolina

A secluded campsite in Santee is home to peaceful sites, adorable farm animals, and meaningful time in nature.

There's a tiny little lake town with a population of just over 800 people, known as Santee. It's about 60 miles southeast of Columbia and the halfway point on I-95 in South Carolina. It's known as a premier golfing destination with three championship golf courses and an outdoor lovers' paradise offering recreational activities on Lake Marion, a national wildlife refuge, and camping. In fact, one of the best campgrounds in South Carolina is in this tiny town, but it's a newer one you may not have heard of yet! Come along as we introduce you to Outside Inn Campground.

Why Outside Inn Feels Different From Larger South Carolina Campgrounds

Outside Inn Campground is an incredible, newer campground located along Woolbright Road just off of Highway 176 in Santee, and it's getting rave reviews from the first campers to stay there. It's a smaller, wonderful South Carolina campground with just 20 sites, giving it a more intimate feel. Some of the campsites are full hookup, while others have water and electric service only. There are both RV and tent sites, and the campground has a renovated fifth wheel you can reserve if you don't have an RV and would like to stay in theirs.

But there's an intention here set by the camp hosts, and you'll notice it from the moment you arrive: things are kept natural here. It's a laid-back atmosphere, which you'll notice is a refreshing change of pace from some of the state's larger campgrounds. Think of this place as more of a smaller, family-friendly community rather than a group for people needing a place to pitch their tent for a night.

What Makes This Campground so Special

Outside Inn Campground is located on a family farm with the cutest animals you can meet, observe, and interact with during your stay. Be sure to book a farm tour, which is noted as the highlight of the entire experience by some prior campers. Animal lovers will have an absolute blast with the animals! But it's not just the animals that make this rurally-located campground so appealing. Farm fresh eggs are available by the half-dozen for purchase (you may be able to grab one or two at no charge if that's all you need). Fresh produce may also be available from other nearby farms.

And there are also trails through the woods behind the campground for a stroll or a nice walk with your dog. Yes, this campground is also pet-friendly, making it one of the best campgrounds in South Carolina for those who need a place they can take their dogs along for the fun. Then, after a day of adventure, head back to the campground and join in on a movie night under the stars for a camping experience you won't soon forget!

Things to Do Nearby

If you'd like to venture out from the campground, you'll find plenty of fun things to do nearby. One of our top recommendations would be visiting Congaree National Park, which is just an hour away. This national landmark is marked by boardwalk trails through old-growth bottomland hardwood forest. It's hard to believe that it's one of America's least-visited national parks!
