Catching the fall foliage in Mississippi is a tricky task. Our friends in the north will start seeing the colors turn in the next few weeks, but Mississippi tends to arrive fashionably late to the festivities. Mid-October to mid-November is the general ballpark, but one poorly-timed cold snap could change that! I always feel like we see the peak fall foliage in Mississippi closer to the beginning of November.

Even though we still have a few weeks to go before we start seeing those beautiful fall colors in Mississippi, we can use that time to start planning our fall adventures! Hopefully, you'll carve out some time this year to see the fall foliage in Mississippi.

I enjoy northern Mississippi for leaf-peeping—especially the northeast area. If you’re thinking about checking out the fall foliage in Mississippi this season, this scenic Airbnb is the perfect place to call home while you explore.

This cabin in Iuka, Mississippi has three bedrooms, and two bathrooms, and can accommodate up to eight guests comfortably. There's plenty of space to sprawl out and yet you're still secluded enough to enjoy your natural surroundings.

While the kitchen is fully stocked and ready for you to cook whatever you'd like, there’s also a charcoal grill for BBQ and a fireplace for cozy campfires and roasted marshmallows. We all know the best parts of fall (besides the fall colors) are the campfires and crisp air.

The back porch is where you’d find me 24/7. I love the tree-top views and the glimpse of the lake just beyond the trees.

Both JP Coleman State Park and Tishomingo State Park are nearby. These are great natural areas to enjoy the fall foliage. If you have a boat, I highly recommend visiting JP Coleman State Park and seeing Copper Falls. It’s only accessible via boat, but it’s just a short boat ride from the park. It’s a beauty when surrounded by various shades of yellow, orange, and red!

Woodall Mountain is also nearby, and this lovely little spot just so happens to be the highest natural point in Mississippi! Take a drive over and catch a tree-top view from your windshield--no hiking necessary!

When it comes to underrated travel destinations, it's tough to beat Mississippi. This state is honestly so much more than just tough to spell; it comes with its very own set of amazing things to do, see, experience, and remember. Should you live here (or especially if you're 'just' visiting), you might get wild hair for exploration - and I don't blame you. This place is significantly more amazing than it gets credit for, and to prove it, I've found a small handful of absolutely amazing Airbnbs in Mississippi - all of which are worthy of becoming a home base for some amazing exploration. Of all the incredible places to stay in Mississippi, these are by far the most wonderful for anyone looking to reconnect with nature.

Okay, seriously - I am positively obsessed with this incredible Mississippi vacation rental; quite a bit larger than the treehouses with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, this amazing spot feels so very away from it all while still being reasonably close to downtown Laurel. When I say this barn is beautiful, I mean it's GORGEOUS, and you'll see why as soon as you arrive (or even just thumb through the photos). Please note that nobody under the age of 13 years is permitted to stay here; please see the house rules for more info about that. An idyllic, kiddo-free getaway with your special someone? I think yes.

4. Quiet Tiny Cabin, Meridian

If you've been in the loop even a little, you'll know that right now, tiny homes are all the rage. Okay, you might have figured out I have a thing for tiny homes (and treehouses), but I couldn't resist featuring this wonderful private tiny home in Mississippi. Under an hour from Hattiesburg, this delightful escape is perfect for a couple or solo travelers and features a small (but fully stocked) kitchen, WiFi (but no TV - this is a place to unplug!), and, of course, plenty of natural beauty to soak in.

Lovers of elegance and architecture, this one's for you! Stay in this luxurious, cozy guesthouse located in gorgeous Jackson not terribly far away from anything but most certainly worthy of a weekend (or longer). Anyone who loves beautiful vacation rentals in Mississippi should strongly consider this one-bedroom, one-bathroom powerhouse of wonder.
