Do you ever wish you could escape to an island getaway? In the Land of 10,000 Lakes, there are surprisingly few opportunities to do so, but they are out there. And one recently caught my eye. There's an island vacation rental in Minnesota, near the charming town of Deer River, that you can have all to yourself for less than $200 per night (as I'm writing this, it's listed for $115 per night). Let me tell you why this tiny house on a private island makes for a perfect Up North escape.
To find this special place, you'll have to head to Deer River, and then out of town a little way to Birch Island on Deer Lake.
Deer Lake, itself, is renowned as one of the clearest lakes in all of Minnesota.
And this gem of a vacation rental is surrounded by it.
This tiny home is encircled by northern Minnesota forest, but it sits on a gravel clearing that's perfect for bonfires and stargazing.
The home's cozy interior feels much larger, thanks to its many windows, which let in a ton of natural light while making you feel closer to the nature that surrounds you.
A full kitchen and nicely-appointed living spaces will keep you comfortable when you're indoors.
The lofted bedroom has three beds that sleep up to four - but it's a perfect getaway for a nature-loving couple.
The highlight of the property, though, is crystal-clear Deer Lake.
You'll have your own private sandy beach and shallow-water dock, perfect for launching a canoe or kayak...
And watching the sun set over the lake with a glass of wine and your favorite people.
This property sits right on the edge of the Chippewa National Forest - can you imagine a better place for an Up North base camp? I can't! For more information on this incredible (and affordable!) island vacation rental in Minnesota, take a look at its Airbnb listing. And if you decide you'd like a unique, off-island dining experience during your stay, head about half an hour west of your rental to Big Fish Supper Club, near the town of Bena on U.S. Route 2. It'll be the first supper club you see that's attached to a giant muskie - you can't miss it!
