Nestled away inside Badlands National Park, the Yellow Mounds Overlook offers one of the most unique and beautiful views in all of SoDak, thanks to the area's diverse geology.

Arguably the most colorful place in the Black Hills, the Yellow Mounds Overlook offers jaw-dropping views of the hills' vibrant colors, all of which are comprised of Paleosol, Chadron, and Brule.

What makes the Overlook even better? There is no hiking required, as it is located in a parking lot just off the Badlands Loop Road.

Spanning an impressive 242,756 acres, the Badlands National Park is comprised of numerous buttes, canyons, and pinnacles, all of which were created 69 million years ago via geologic forces of deposition and erosion.

While the Yellow Mounds Overlook does not include much hiking, Badlands National Park does offer several other trails that are perfect for nearly any and every skill level.
