Wyomingites love to get out and about and explore our protected forests, mountains, and high prairie. In the winter, it can be a little harder to find the motivation to face the brutal winds and bitter cold, but the views and experiences are always worth bundling up. Some people may not realize you can cut your own Christmas tree in Wyoming straight from the National Forests!
Wyoming's National Forests are a true treasure all year long. In the spring, summer, and fall, they are ideal hiking destinations. In the winter, they become a snowy paradise.
Did you know that you can cut down your own Christmas tree in Wyoming? Taking home a real spruce or pine from the National Forest is so much better than visiting a tree lot or putting up a fake tree.
Wherever you live in Wyoming, chances are you're close to a National Forest, so hit the road and get out there to cut your own Christmas Tree!
Picking out the best tree for your home is a family tradition in the Cowboy State. Pick out a tree from an overgrown section of the forest and cut it all the way down to leave just a stump, if you want to help out Mother Nature.
Tree cutting permits will cost you between $5 and $10, depending on the forest you choose. Typically, you can take a tree up to 10 or 20 feet in height, and you would be limited to 5 permits per household.
Winter conditions can be rough out here, so come prepared. You'll need a chainsaw to cut the tree, and it's best to not go alone into the forest.
When you get home and begin to decorate, the smell of the forest will permeate throughout your home and fill you with Christmas spirit.
There's something special about placing presents under a tree that you chose for yourself, out of millions of options, to bring home to your family this holiday season.
