An incredible zoo in eastern Wisconsin will let you take a walk – or a ride – on the wild side. Shalom Wildlife Zoo is home to a huge number of wild and exotic animals and it's the perfect destination for a family day trip. And if you love seeing gorgeous wolves up close, this is a zoo you’ll want to visit. Here’s what you need to know about Shalom Wildlife Zoo.
The zoo is located in Washington County, just north of West Bend. A shady tree-lined drive will take you into the zoo area. Parking is free and tickets can be purchased in the Gift Shop building.
You can choose how to explore the zoo. You may want to rent a golf cart. You can take the cart on a gravel loop past all the animal exhibits. You’ll pass all sorts of animals, including bears, bison, bobcats, zebras, deer camels, llamas and more.
You can also explore the zoo on foot, although you’ll need to be prepared to do some walking. The zoo has about four miles of paths, so you’ll want to wear good walking shoes.
You can feed some of the animals – special feed is available for purchase on site and they will come right up to the fences. “Feed me” signs will alert you to animals that may be fed.
You won’t be able to feed the wolves, but if you’re lucky, you may get to see them at mealtime. They enjoy feasting on donated deer carcasses, bones and all!
The wolves are majestic creatures – you’ll want to linger to see them prowl their territory!
The zoo is open year-round, although hours vary by season. See the latest zoo hours here. Two-hour golf cart rentals are available from April through October. Wisconsin has some incredible little zoos and animal parks. Here’s a zoo that offers a safari-like experience!
