Is there anyone who doesn’t love cheese? It's a Wisconsin staple! And there the Wisconsin Discovery Center is all about this amazing food. In addition to demos and exhibit, some of the best grilled cheese sandwiches in Wisconsin are cooked up each year at an event in Manitowoc. The competition takes place in The Farm Wisconsin Discovery Center, a facility that strives to connect the curiosity of visitors to the wonders of farming. It’s located about seven miles south of downtown Manitowoc and it’s an easy day trip from places like Milwaukee and Green Bay.
The facility features a variety of interactive exhibits on Wisconsin agriculture, it offers farm tours and in has a “Birthing Barn” where on some days you can see a live calf birth!
The center also has a delicious farm-to-table cafe and it holds a variety of lively and educational events throughout the year.
Each spring, grilled cheese takes center stage at this Wisconsin attraction. Adult and youth competitors face off to see who is the big cheese.
As the audience watches as competitors compete in various categories: Classic Dairyland, which is a pretty classic grilled cheese; Tasty Bucky, which is fancied up with additional ingredients; or Sweet Wisconsin, which is more of a dessert category. The results promise to be delicious!
While the entries will be inventive, there’s one rule that can not be violated in this competition: Cheese from real milk must be used! The event is held in partnership with the Manitowoc County Dairy Promotion.
