This is State Street Brat, otherwise known as home of the “world famous red brat.”
A Madison staple, it was originally opened as the Brathaus. In 1989, the Brathaus became State Street Brats, and the rest is history.
Practically since day one, State Street Brats has been a University of Wisconsin favorite that’s loved by current students, alumni, and Badgers fans.
It’s also loved by die-hard brat fans, who can’t get enough of the eatery’s signature red brat, which is made using a propriety recipe that was created specifically for the Brathuas years ago.
Locally produced, the famous red brat is made by Trig’s Sausage Company in Rhinelander and goes great with some cheese curds and a Spotted Cow.
It also goes great with a bloody Mary, which is exactly what you’ll get if you order the Brathous Bloody.
Back in the Brathaus days, you’d only find red brats on the menu.
However, in 1989, along with a name change, the eatery’s menu was expanded to include white brats, too.
White brats weren’t the only item added to the menu, though. Over the years, the menu has grown to include classic pub grub, like burgers, sandwiches, wings, and more.
And to make that pub grub go down a bit easier, there’s an expansive beer selection, which includes tap, cans, and bottles, as well as a patio that’s incredibly inviting on a sunny afternoon.

This isn’t the only eatery that dishes out a famous, must-try item. There’s another restaurant known for its massive mozzarella sticks, which are so big that you need two hands to eat them.
