In Milwaukee, many restaurants will have you feeling like part of the family — it's just who we are. There's something about walking into a diner, sitting down and being served right outside of the kitchen. American diners will give you a throwback, serve up homemade meals, and make you feel right at home. These seven diners in MKE are no exception, but they're absolutely exceptional.
1. Mr. Perkins' Family Restaurant
This Milwaukee diner truly puts the soul in soul food. With a classic diner feel —
though not fancy by any means — the friendliest staff that will truly make you feel at home, and downright home cooking, your soul will be refueled at Mr. Perkins. They’re a cash-only diner, but a stop to the ATM is worth your time. Make sure to try the catfish and okra — it’s the best in town.

2. Comet Cafe
Comet Cafe serves up incredible homemade food in a modern yet laid back and eclectic space. They have a traditional diner counter to sit at or tables to be served at. Their menu is full of comfort food made from scratch, and they have great vegetarian and vegan options for our plant-based friends too. Everything about Comet is always on point, and will always leave you feeling at home.

3. North Avenue Grill
For breakfast, lunch, and anything in between, North Avenue Grill is a great choice. This little new American diner is a modern spot in Tosa is a newer addition to North Avenue, and it’s really growing in popularity. They have awesome unique dishes like breakfast quesadillas, along with classic burgers that are to die for. You can’t go wrong with this modern day classic spot, but make sure to get there early as there will likely be a wait.

4. Miss Katie's Diner
This charming diner near Marquette has been around for more than 25 years. Their 50’s retro theme will have you feeling like you’ve time traveled, and at some booths, you may even see a plaque featuring a famous person who dined there, or a commercial that was shot in that very spot! Miss Katie’s is one unique dining experience you have to try.

5. Ma Fischer's
Ma Fischer’s is a staple in the life of a Milwaukeean. Whether you’ve stumbled in after bar close, or had a family brunch with the in-laws, Ma Fischer’s is always there to provide a wholesome meal with a wholesome feel. You can’t miss the statue of Ma Fischer herself outside, and this spot is open 24/7. The east side diner serves up classic German fare, which is a typical find in Milwaukee, but don’t fret, there’s nothing typical about this Milwaukee gem.

6. Two Brothers
This small diner has everything you need. Classic food, friendly staff, and a feeling of being in the past. This is one diner to relax and have your morning cup of joe at. There are no frills here, it’s just perfect.

7. George Webb
If you grew up in Milwaukee, you’ll know what George Webb is. We’ve all ended up there a time or two after a long night This chain of diners throughout Milwaukee has become a part of life to any Milwaukeean. You can always count on George Webb’s to be there (typically open 24 hours) and serve up classic, affordable breakfast, and lunch any time of day. Their breakfast specials, burgers, and everything in between is dirt cheap and delicious. Life just wouldn’t be the same without these Milwaukee diners.
