When you're in Wisconsin, a bratwurst is more than a sausage - it's a thing to be cherished. Whether it's lovingly grilled in a parking lot at Lambeau or dropped into a home omelet in Crivitz, the bratwurst is one of the foods that are closest to the state's heart.
While there are meat markets all over Wisconsin turning out their own special brat recipes, there's a market in northwestern Wisconsin that takes things a little further.
Louie’s Finer Meats in Cumberland, pop. 2,100, turns out a whopping 100 varieties of bratwurst, including some flavors you may not be able to resist and some that are so unusual they may leave you scratching your head. Blueberry brats? Yep, better believe it, and that's just the start of what you'll find in this bountiful brat case.
Wonderful or weird? Read on and decide for yourself.
Louie’s Finer Meats is located on Superior Avenue In Cumberland - it's a beautiful area of the state that's popular with outdoors lovers. Thanks to Louie's, no one will go hungry after spending a day on the lakes and trails of Barron County.
Louie's makes a lot of high-quality meat products, including hams, ring sausages, and bacon, and it has the trophy case to prove it's the best. While the shop has cleaned up at the Wisconsin Cured Meats Championships, it's not just a Wisconsin winner - it has also done well in major international competitions.
The shop has been around since 1970 and is family-owned and operated. The Muench family manages all areas of production and service.
When they are not behind the counter, they are making brats you won't believe.
Feeling like a Reuben for lunch? How about a brat instead? Louie's has one made of corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, and of course, thousand island dressing. Somehow, it works! Other flavors include cranberry, blue cheese, and jalapeno and cheddar.
