Wisconsin is filled with hidden wonders that are just waiting to be discovered by people who are willing to go the extra mile. In Western Wisconsin, there’s a waterfall tucked into the forest that you’ll never see – unless you’re willing to take on a wild trail into the woods. If you like making discoveries, this little-known waterfall is worth the hike. Here’s what you need to know to find this amazing hidden waterfall.
The waterfall is located in the 1,242-acre Kinnickinnic State Park, a park at the junction of the Kinnickinnic and St. Croix Rivers. It's a short drive from the city of River Falls.
The hiking trail is officially 2.9 miles in length and it’s well marked and easy to follow, although there are many bends and turns in the trail. Just follow the signs!
When you hike the trail, you’ll encounter a varied landscape, including open prairie land, meadows, and tranquil pine forest.
The trail traces a bluff high above the Kinnickinnic River. Locals call this beautiful river the “Kinni.”
Hike carefully and quietly with your eyes open. The waterfall is easy to miss, especially in months when the foliage is dense.
If you listen carefully, you’ll hear the rushing water of the falls. And if you look deep into the woods, you’ll see it: a hidden waterfall cascading to the river below. it's not a huge waterfall, but it's beautiful.
The intensity of the falls varies through the season so the waterfall can sometimes be challenging to locate. If you miss the falls on your hike, the trail is still gorgeous, and you’ll have an excuse to return. Someday you’ll find these hidden falls! If you love waterfall hikes, here’s another cool waterfall you’ll want to hunt down.
