Forget the caramel apple, pumpkin spice, whatevers. Maybe the best part of this time of year is being scared out of your mind. I love me a great haunted house. Here are nine of the very best in the state of Wisconsin.
1. Mars Haunted House
Located in the old historic district of Milwaukee, Mars Haunted House is unique as it is in the second story of an 1800s building. Extreme interactivity makes this a truly spooky experience. There's a toned down version for the kiddos where they use necklaces to ward of spirits/monsters.
2. Burial Chamber Haunted Complex
In Neenah, Burial Chamber is a true complex. There are not one, but TWO haunted houses for scare the pants off of you. In addition, check out the haunted woods, as well as a burial simulator. Talk about an undertaking. 125 actors are there NIGHTLY. It's been rated in the top 15 scary attractions in the country.
3. Abandoned Haunted House Complex
Located conveniently right off of 94 in Mount Pleasant, Abandoned Haunted House Complex serves the Milwaukee/Racine/Chicago areas. It has been voted Best Overall Haunted Event and Best Haunted Houses by the Chicago Halloween Guide, good praise since the attraction is located in Wisconsin. You will work your way through a maze full of scares and special effects. Your palms will sweat and your heart will race.
4. The Dark Side Haunted Adventure
In Ixonia, the Dark Side Haunted Adventure at Glacier Rock Farms offers SIX haunts that cover 40 acres. There are 2 haunted houses for you to choose from. But you can also go on a freaky hayride, the Midwest's largest vortex tunnel, or a haunted corn maze. Whatever you choose, you will be sufficiently freaked out.
5. The Hill Has Eyes
In Franklin, the Hill Has Eyes has been voted the #1 attraction in all of SE Wisconsin by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. This one is pretty intense, guys. You'll be hoded and walk around in the dark, be scared to death by tons of pretty good actors, and go on a terrifying thrill ride. You've never experienced anything like this.
6. Racine Factory of Fear
Racine Factory of Fear has been scaring you guys for six years, and this year is no different. Head to their century-old abandoned warehouse. Choose from Devil's Nightmare or Blind Madness. New is "Zombie Massacre," an interactive laser tag experience.
7. Forest of Freaks
Down in Janesville, Forest of Freaks. This place is INSANE, and it is Wisconsin's scariest and longest outdoor haunted house. There's a choose your own path adventure, great special effects, monsters, and, of course, really creepy clowns.
8. Wisconsin Scaryland
In Westport, Wisconsin Scaryland (haha, I see what they did there) occupies 10,000 square feet. Or, rather, your screams occupy 10,000 square feet. The actors are great, and the creators of the maze have great attention to detail. You will be spooooooked.
9. Estate of Terror
In Walworth, you will take a hayride that is 25 minutes long, where you encounter some of your greatest fears. Will you see any freakish figures in the forest? (Spoiler alert: you definitely do.) Then, enter the haunted Victorian mansion. It's dark, eerie, and there are haunts at every turn.
These were terrifying. What is your favorite Wisconsin haunted house/experience? Let us know in the comments.
