And Green Bay, Wisconsin, made the top 50 best places to retire -- though we believe it should have ranked even higher! Here’s why...
The rankings were published by U.S. News and World Report. Green Bay came in at #41 because of its “perfect mix of big-city amenities complemented with a Midwestern, small-town feel.” This Wisconsin gem beat out places like Boston, Miami, and Washington D.C.!
When it comes to quality of life, Green Bay has an oversized ace up its sleeve. A clue: this winning card is green and gold. Yep, the Packers were cited by the judges as a specific reason why Green Bay is a place to enjoy retirement. We couldn’t agree more!
If you haven’t been to Green Bay in a while, you might not realize how much the downtown has transformed. It’s incredibly pedestrian friendly. You won’t find a Port Plaza Mall anymore but you can ride a Segway!
The Fox River runs right though Green Bay. It’s increasingly become a recreational playground. Hop in your kayak – you’ll find boat launches throughout the city - or just enjoy river views from one of the trails or bridges.
There are also plenty of free or low-cost entertainment options, which makes the city a budget-friendly place to call home. For example, residents can take advantage of free admission days at places like the Neville Public Museum.

Why We Love It: It's taken several trips for me to figure out my perfect "weekender bag that's TSA approved," but I've found my perfect carry on with the TOBIQ Colorado 30L. Why I Love It: Fact: Airplanes are notoriously dry, dry, dry. No matter how much water I drink both before and during the flight, I always find myself in a hydration deficit for days. 1. George Esterly invents the first harvesting machine (1844)
Hardly anyone under 30 knows what a ribbon is, but if not for the typewriter, we wouldn't have word processing machines, making this one of the most important inventions from Wisconsin.

4. Dr. John Carhart built the first steam-powered automobile (1871)
It all happened when a customer asked Berner to put some chocolate syrup on top of ice cream. Ummmmm....awesome idea, resulting in not just one of the best things Wisconsin did first, but one of the sweetest, too.
And the amazing part is that this list only talks about the things invented in Wisconsin - and not the multitude of things that Wisconsinites perfected. They certainly make us proud of our Wisconsin roots!
