In 1972, "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" was playing in the theaters, and a fairytale of a candy store was opening in a magical little Wisconsin village. Door County Confectionery has been delighting candy lovers of all ages for more than five decades and it’s a must-visit spot when you’re visiting Fish Creek. The little shop has grown over the years and expanded to new locations, but it’s just as sweet as ever. Here’s what you need to know about Door County Confectionery, a great Wisconsin candy shop.
When the candy store opened, it faced some challenges. The retail community was very small in Fish Creek and the Door County tourism season was incredibly short – back then, it only lasted about three months.
With some hard work and a lot of sugar, the little shop persevered. It became one of Door County’s enduring success stories and it has now served generations of Door County visitors.
In every location there’s a lot to satisfy any sweet tooth. The selection of fudge is as delicious as it is expansive – there are 10 varieties, including classics like chocolate walnut and chocolate mint swirl.
The shop can still be found in Fish Creek, although there are now other Door County locations in Sister Bay, Ephraim, and Sturgeon Bay.
If you’re into throwback candy, you’re in the right place. Rediscover all the favorites you loved as a kid and pick up some surprising new hard candy varieties that you won’t be able to resist.
And that’s just the start of what you’ll find in this sugary wonderland. The store also sells wrapped caramels, chocolate covered Oreos, peanut butter cups, caramel corn, English toffee, angel food, and more.
