West Virginians know the importance of scheduling a little play time to balance out the stresses encountered in everyday life. Fortunately, living in The Mountain State boasts a variety of places to get out of doors for an epic adventure that's fun for the entire family. Located a mere hour-long drive south of Charleston is a lake with a beach, a restaurant, and a waterpark that's unlike any other in the state.
If you have yet to discover Wonderland Waterpark in Oak Hill, then you have been missing out.
The folks at Ace Adventure Resorts, known for their adrenaline-pumping whitewater tours on the New River, have a family-oriented inflatable waterpark on a mountain lake — complete with a sandy shore that's perfect for sinking your toes into.
A day pass (or half-day pass) buys hours and hours of endless entertainment on the huge inflatables located within the lake.
In all, there are 50 of these big inflatables and each one is designed to make everyone feel like a kid again. Whether you're climbing to the top of a giant tower with the intent to throw yourself off into the water or you're making your way through an obstacle course, endless fun awaits.
Over on the expansive beach, there is ample room for the whole crew to spread out and enjoy the day.
Kids of all ages are welcome at Wonderland; however, those who are under 17 must be accompanied by an adult. And no lifeguards are on duty but the park does employ lake attendants who help enforce the rules.
Are you up for a challenging ride on the spinning Saturn ball?
Or is the 200-foot water slide more your speed? There is also a zipline that'll have you making a big splash entry into the lake, and water trampolines that will make you giggle like you're 12 again.
For those in the family that don't want to actually get in the lake for one reason or another, there are daily deck passes available.
Over on the deck, wood-fired pizza and an endless supply of cold drinks make refueling a snap. You'll be back in the water in no time!
Have you, or someone you know, already discovered the infinite family fun at Wonderland Waterpark? We'd love to know!
