Long lines at the mall may shorten after the holiday season, but most of us would probably rather get outside and enjoy the snow while it lasts, right? Skip the lines, whether they’re long or short, at the malls this winter. Instead, pile the whole family in the car, and head to these five winter attractions in West Virginia that promise a ton of fun.
1. Autumn Breeze Stables – Slaty Fork
Breathe in the fresh air as the winter landscape passes you by during a winter horseback riding tour with Autumn Breeze Stables. The stables offer one-hour, two-hour, and four-hour tours. 2. Split Rock Pools – Pocahontas County
If you’re really in the need of a winter getaway, plan a night or two at Snowshoe Mountain Resort. Staying at the resort promises plenty of perks, but one stands out from the rest. Bundle the whole family up for a day of fun at ACE Adventure Resort, which features a winter ziplining course. Tours last between three and four hours and promise plenty of thrills. 4. Canaan Valley Resort – Davis
Why stand in long lines at the mall when you can soar down the longest snow tubing hill in West Virginia? Yep, Canaan Valley Resort boasts the state’s longest snow tubing run, which spans 1,200 feet. 5. Blackwater Falls State Park – Davis
What would winter be without an epic day of sled riding? Fortunately, we live in West Virginia, home to the longest sledding hill east of the Mississippi at Blackwater Falls State Park. Zoom down the quarter-mile hill on your sled. Two-hour sledding sessions are available, and Blackwater Falls State Park evens hosts evening sledding hours – until 7 p.m. – on Fridays and Saturdays.
