West Virginia has a number of famous haunted locations, like the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum and West Virginia State Penitentiary. But some of our lesser known haunted locations are worth a look, too! Here are a few of the lesser-known paranormal spots.
1. The Archive of the Afterlife
The Archive of the Afterlife: National Museum of the Paranormal is located in Moundsville, WV. The museum is dedicated to all things haunted and paranormal, and has a number of items that are reported to be haunted. Read more about the museum here.
2. North Bend State Park
The North Bend State Park has a lodge and campground that have been the subject of some spooky stories. Read more about it here.
3. North Bend Rail Trail.
This abandoned railroad has been converted to a hiking trail, but there are some spooky stories surrounding some of the old tunnels, especially the Silver Run Tunnel.
4. Middleway
Middleway is also known as "Wizard Clip" after a ghost known to cut holes in people's clothing. Read more about the town here.
5. Camden Park
Camden Park is fairly well known, but not everyone knows that it's rumored to be haunted. The park was built around an ancient Indian burial mound. Read more about the park here.
6. Riverview Cemetery
There's a legend that this weeping woman statue gets up and walks around this Parkersburg cemetery during a full moon.
7. Flinderation Tunnel
This abandoned railroad tunnel near Salem, WV is said to be haunted by several spirits. Read the stories and get directions here.
8. Whipple Company Store
This historic company store is said to be haunted by the ghosts of coal miners who labored in town. The store hosts ghost hunting events. Read more about it here.
9. 22 Mine Road
Mamie Thurman was brutally murdered in 1932, and her body dumped along the remote 22 Mine Road near Logan. Although an illiterate handyman was charged with he crime, most people believe that her true murderer was never found, and her final resting place is uncertain. It's said that her ghost still haunts the mountain road. Read more of her story
