There are a lot of great things about summer in West Virginia. One of our favorites is all the delicious fruits and vegetables you can pick right from your very own garden. If you lack a green thumb, why not head to one of our berry farms? Heading to a you-pick farm will allow you to do the exact same thing at home, with far less effort and no gardening skills required. Here are two options that will have blueberries ready for harvesting in the summer ... yum!
1. Floral Acres: French Creek
The last few years have been tough for blueberry farmers. There are, of course, COVID-related concerns for many businesses, but we've also had a few consecutive years where the weather was not conducive to a booming blueberry crop. Still, at the largest blueberry farm in West Virginia, you can find more than enough blueberries to go around!
Floral Acres boasts approximately 3,500 blueberry bushes. You can typically find berries available from late June through mid-August. All of Floral Acres' berries are organic and have not been treated with pesticides.
French Creek is located southeast of the Weston and Stonewall Jackson Lake area. You can learn more about Floral Acres Blueberry Farm from the farm's website.
2. White Oak Farm: Renick
Looking for even more you-pick farm options in West Virginia? Another choice is White Oak Farm. You can find this berry patch at the end of a meandering dirt lane in the small town of Renick, just north of Lewisburg. You can purchase u-pick blueberries by the pound.
White Oak Farm also sells cut flowers and pick-your-own basil.
