Spring has sprung here in West Virginia, and with it comes the Spring Nature Fling, a special event that spans both time (April, May, and even some of June) and space (multiple locations scattered across Southern West Virginia). Featuring free classes, exhibits, demonstrations, nature hikes, and more, this is one unique festival that will help you welcome in spring to the fullest here in Southern West Virginia!
Where can you find all this spring fun? So many different places. Tamarack Marketplace in Beckley, West Virginia, for example, is holding glass blowing demonstrations, hands-on sessions, and even classes. Tamarack is also hosting a nature themed WV Wild Things art exhibit in their fine arts gallery and a Youth Arts Spring Wildflower exhibit in the Hulett C. Smith Theater.
And you know Tamarack is the place to shop for all sorts of unique spring products!
Another spring art exhibit in Beckley will be displayed at the Beckley Art Center -- a wildflower art themed exhibition (the Les Fleurs Flower Exhibition) -- and even more glass art experiences can be had in Fayetteville, where Love Hope Gallery is offering a bird-themed stained glass class for beginners.
For some spring themed hiking, try a jaunt through bluebells or explore an old growth forest. Enjoy trails lined with delicate spring wildflowers (and learn to identify them). Explore waterfalls flowing high with spring rains. See the New River Gorge in the light of a full moon. Conquer a new rail trail.
The fun doesn't stop with hiking! There are nature themed day camps for kids, ladies waterfalling weekends, master naturalist certification classes, birdwatching expeditions, foraging treks, leave no trace trainings, family adventure days, nature journaling workshops, beginning photography tips, and more.
Hear about the history of parts of Southern West Virginia. Learn to identify the birds, night creatures, salamanders, and even moths that live here, all things we know you've been dying to learn more about.
So where can you learn more about all the spring fun to be had at the Spring Nature Fling in Southern West Virginia? On the National Park Service website. As you plan your excursions to Southern West Virginia and the New River Gorge region, remember to pack plenty of water, comfortable footwear, snacks, and (for outdoor activities) binoculars and cameras. Have fun enjoying these beautiful mountains and valleys we call home all dressed up for spring!
