West Virginia gets its "almost heaven" reputation from its pristine mountains, forests, and rivers - and rightly so. But one thing we're missing here in the Mountain State is oceanfront. But, lest you think this means we've got a lack of beautiful waterfront (or waterfront dining) here in Wild, Wonderful West Virginia, think again!
Even in a landlocked mountain haven like West Virginia, you'll find opportunities to relax and watch the sun set over the water. One of the best places to do this is the Lakehouse Restaurant.
Set on the shore of scenic Cheat Lake next to the Sunset Beach Marina, the Lakehouse Restaurant offers fine, laidback dining with one of the best waterfront views in the state.
Cheat Lake in Monongalia County is well-known as a destination for water adventure: conveniently located just 10 minutes east of Morgantown, its 1,730 acres are perfect for swimming, boating, kayaking, tubing, and any other kind of water recreation. There are sandy beaches and family fun at Cheat Lake Park, and boat, jet ski, and canoe rentals at Sunset Beach Marina, not to mention hiking on the Cheat Lake Trail.
But after a day on and around the lake, there's also a perfect place to relax with a great meal and a cold drink and a beautiful sunset.
The Lakehouse Restaurant serves up a delicious variety of Italian dishes, seafood, and classic American fare.
The well-stocked bar will keep your thirst quenched.
The friendly service and relaxed environment is often supplemented by live music during summer weekends. Best of all: the outdoor seating where you can kick back and enjoy a gorgeous view of the sun setting over the lake.
This summer, if you're looking for a vacation by the water, don't bother driving hours to reach the coast. Instead, make plans to get away to Cheat Lake. Book a nearby motel, campground, or cabin, fill each day with adventures, and enjoy a delicious dinner and a relaxing sunset over the water at the end of it!
