"The Charming Small Town In West Virginia Where You Can Still Experience An Old Fashioned Christmas." You probably read that article title right before clicking on this post, and now you're most likely thinking of Harpers Ferry, aren't you? But, while it's true that old-fashioned Christmas in West Virginia's Harpers Ferry, that's not the only small town that boasts a back-in-time holiday experience here in the state! Welcome to an old-fashioned pioneer Christmas in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, featuring Fort Randolph's Christmas On The Frontier holiday experience.
On the first Saturday in December each year, visitors to Point Pleasant, West Virginia can walk right into Fort Randolph for a self-guided, self-paced tour of the grounds of this historic fort.
Fort Randolph was a defense structure for early pioneers to this area during the American Revolution (from 1776 to 1779) and it was also the site of Chief Cornstalk's death.
The current fort is an excellent historic reproduction of this colonial-era structure and provides a real-life glimpse into what life was like for Ohio Valley settlers in the 1700s.
Various stations at the fort will be staffed with costumed re-enactors celebrating old-time holiday traditions that date all the way back to the 1700s. It's a great way to learn about what Christmas in West Virginia was like a few hundred years ago.
Plus, the fort's authentic trading post will be open for shopping and the fort's historic tavern will be open and serving some 18th-century style holiday treats!
Christmas On The Frontier at Fort Randolph in Point Pleasant, West Virginia is free, but donations are always welcome.
And even if you can't make it on the weekend of this event, the fort is open regularly for visitors on other days throughout the year, so still be sure to check it out.
