Every season in West Virginia promises its own unique beauty — from the blossoming of flowers in the spring to the colorful palette of colors in the fall. Winter, too, brings with it its own breathtaking beauty, especially after a fresh snowfall. We have an abundance of places in the state to admire the winter landscape, but one stands out above the rest: New River Gorge, West Virginia's Grand Canyon.
New River Gorge, West Virginia's Grand Canyon, beckons more than a million visitors each year with its spectacular views and full menu of family-friendly activities.
Regardless of in what season you visit, you'll be treated to sensational views of the natural wonder that spans 53 miles.
Drink in jaw-dropping views of the deepest part of the gorge — 1,400 feet, in fact — when you stop by the viewing area near the Grandview Visitors Center. (Don't forget your camera!)
However, if you're in the mood to breathe in the cold winter air, consider setting off on a scenic hike along the nearly three-mile Long Point Trail.
While the easy trail can get quite busy, it offers a spectacular payoff at the end — sweeping views of The New River Gorge Bridge and The New River Gorge.
If you're a bit of a daredevil, embark on the New River Gorge Bridge Walk. The guided walk, during which you will be harnessed to the bridge, promises one-of-a-kind views from the open-air catwalk.
