Winter is a beautiful season in West Virginia, but it can also be a long, cold, dark one. And in long, cold, dark seasons, fun ways to get out and try something different become all the more precious...which is why we definitely recommend heading to Canaan Valley Resort to strap on some ice skates and take a loop or two around the rink, all the while enjoying some beautiful mountain views!
Picture this: the sun sinks slowly toward the western horizon, which is rimmed with breathtaking mountain peaks.
You and a handful of friends have a front row seat as the sky bursts into a flame of color, because you can see that mountain-framed sunset as you speed around an open-air ice rink.
Is this a dream? No, it's Canaan Valley Resort State Park in Davis, West Virginia.
Nestled high in the Appalachian Mountains, Canaan Valley Resort is a luxurious escape full of things to do, views to enjoy, food to eat, and ways to relax.
And one of those things you can do here is ice-skate!
Canaan Valley's ice rink is partially open-air: you're protected from the weather by the roof above your head, but you can still enjoy magnificent mountain views as you skate thanks to the only partially enclosed walls.
And these are not just any mountain views: that's Bald Knob there in the background!
There's even a fire pit adjacent to the rink in case you get cold or need to take a little break from skating.
Sounds like the perfect winter adventure, doesn't it? To learn more, visit the ice skating page on Canaan Valley Resort's website.
