Need a place to enjoy all the best things about fall? Gritt’s Farm in West Virginia fits the bill. This rural paradise comes with all the trimmings of a good, old-fashioned fun destination. In operation since 1927, this family-owned farm has been a mainstay for the local community for nearly 100 years, providing farm-fresh produce to the Kanawha Valley area of West Virginia. Today, the farm’s reach has expanded to include seasonal attractions like a corn maze and apple cannons, but you can still buy the best of the area’s local products.
Take your pick from such lo-fi attractions as wagon rides, a corn bin, a hay maze, and rubber duck racing during the Fun Farm days of autumn.
Slide Mountain is exactly what it sounds like. Kids can go up and down as many times as they’d like.
During the late summer and early autumn, the sunflower fields are in full bloom. Take advantage and nab some Insta-worthy shots in this gorgeous flower field.
Kids, and adults, will appreciate the petting zoo filled with adorable farm animals, and likely some babies, such as these goats. Look for the “Bunnyville” area for the farm’s resident rabbits.
Of course, you can still take advantage of the farm’s produce and shop for locally-grown food and other products. The farm also sells annuals, perennials, and herbs.
And what would a farm be without some pick-your-own opportunities? You’ll find the perfect pumpkin in the pumpkin patch.
The Fun Farm portion of Gritt’s Farm is open from mid-September to the end of October. The Farm itself opens back up in the spring. Aside from seasonal activities and produce, the farm also hosts garden workshops and Farm to Table dinners. You can learn more about the farm’s attractions and food options on the Gritt’s Farm website.
