West Virginia has many fine dining establishments that are worth a visit, but the essential foods that make people think of West Virginia are always comfort foods. West Virginia has its own take on pizza, cheesesteak hoagies, hot dogs, and our favorite pepperoni rolls. Check out these restaurants that serve up the basics in the best possible way.
1. Tudor's Biscuit World
Tudor's started right here in West Virginia, and now has dozens of locations around the state, and even some in surrounding states. You can't beat these biscuits!
2. DiCarlos Pizza
This unique style of pizza originated in Ohio, but found fans all over West Virginia. You can enjoy the pizza in one of 13 locations around the state.
3. Pies and Pints
This local chain has some of the most creative pizza toppings you'll ever see. There are locations in Fayetteville, Charleston, and Morgantown.
4. Coleman's Fish Market
Coleman Fish Market in the Centre Market has been family run since 1914. Many people say this is the world's best place to get a fish sandwich. Address: 2226 Market St, Wheeling, WV 26003.
5. Stewarts Original Hot Dogs
This little spot has been a favorite stop for hot dogs and root beer for decades. Address: 2445 5th Ave, Huntington, West Virginia
6. Jim's Steak and Spaghetti
As you'd expect, this restaurant serves delicious steak and spaghetti, but they are also famous for their strawberry pie. Address: 920 5th Ave, Huntington, WV 25701
7. Yann's Hot Dogs
These hot dogs are polarizing. You'll either love them or hate them. Fans adore the spicy sauce and line up to get a taste of these dogs during the shop's limited hours. Address: 300 Washington Street, Fairmont, WV.
8. Diehl's
Diehl's has been a favorite in Nitro for decades. They serve homestyle food and have extremely loyal customers from all around the area. Address: 152 Main Ave, Nitro, WV 25143.
9. North End Tavern
The North End Tavern is the oldest restaurant in West Virginia, founded in 1899. They are famous for their NET burgers. Address: 3500 Emerson Ave, Parkersburg, WV, 26104.
10. King Tut Drive In
Drive-ins are popular around the state for their fast and affordable food and a sense of nostalgia. King Tut is one of the best. Address: 301 N. Eisenhower Drive, Beckley, WV.
11. Country Club Bakery
Of course, it's not exactly a restaurant, but we can't leave out the home of the pepperoni roll that's taken over our state. You can find the original here.
