Covered bridges were once a common sight across the United States. Most have now been abandoned or replaced. There are now only 17 West Virginia covered bridges left. We showed you nine of these covered bridges before, now here are the remaining eight beautiful covered bridges in West Virginia.
1. Fish Creek Covered Bridge, Wetzel County
This historic bridge was built in 1881. It's only 36 feet long. Take a winter drive through this covered bridge:
2. Hokes Mill Covered Bridge, Greenbrier County
This covered bridge was built between 1897 and 1899. It is 81.6 feet long.
3. Mud River Covered Bridge, Cabell County
The Mud River Covered Bridge was built in 1875 over the Mud River but has since been restored and moved to the nearby Cabell County Fairgrounds. It is 112 feet long and now crosses a pond. Please note that this bridge is temporarily closed. Get a closer look at this old bridge:
4. Center Point Covered Bridge, Doddridge County
The Center Point Covered Bridge dates back to 1888 when it was built for a total of $1206.54.
5. Walkersville Covered Bridge, Lewis County
The Walkersville Covered Bridge was built in 1903 and is just 39 feet, 4 inches long.
6. Staats Mill Covered Bridge, Jackson County
Also known as Tug Fork Covered Bridge, this bridge was architecturally significant for its time and played an important role in the development of Jackson County. Follow along on a walk through the Staats Mill bridge:
7. Sarvis Fork Covered Bridge, Jackson County
Also known as Sandyville Covered Bridge, this bridge was first built in 1889. It was relocated after Route 33 was constructed, and completely rebuilt in 2000.
8. Simpson Creek Covered Bridge, Harrison County
The Simpson Creek Covered Bridge was washed away by a flood in 1889 and then rebuilt in its current location. It was renovated in 2001 for nearly $400,000.
