The fall foliage in the Walla Walla Valley is stunning, and of course, the thriving food and wine scene is enough to tempt anyone to visit. But for decades, there's been another reason to check out this charming little city in mid-October. The Walla Walla Balloon Stampede is a time-honored tradition, and this year promises to be better than ever.
The Walla Walla Balloon Stampede is a five day affair that always kicks off in mid-October.
This year's Nite Glow Spectacular will be on Friday, October 18.

Other events include a kids' day (Wednesday) where children are welcome to come check out the balloons, and a Mayor’s Cup Launch, where pilots are required to fly away from the launch site and return to where they took off.
Usually, only sponsors and members of the media can ride in the balloons. But this year, Spencer Air will be offering rides on a very limited, first-come first-served basis. So if you're interested, you'll want to arrive early.
While you can spot these brilliant balloons all over town, they'll be launching from Howard Tietan Park.

Looking toward Wedge Mountain, the gazebo and Front Street in Leavenworth, Washington. Leavenworth is a Bavarian-style village in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains. It is known for its Christmas Lighting Ceremonies in December. Taken in early evening, on a clear December night, after a fresh snowfall.
Not to mention, the small town of Leavenworth is practically designed to bring holiday cheer to visitors. Their entire downtown is lit up during the holidays and out-of-towners can enjoy one of many delightful holiday events along with some of the best Christmas lights.
For something a little more urban, I recommend checking out Pike Place Market. Even former locals like myself may not realize this famous Seattle destination hosts fantastic holiday events. Though the lights may not be as intricate as other attractions, the cheery atmosphere transforms the typically crowded market into a charming haven for holiday cheer. It may be a great place to start for lovely Christmas lights in Seattle, Washington.
7. Dungeness River Nature Center, Sequim
You'll find one of my favorite holiday displays at the Dungeness River Nature Center in Sequim. Each year, thousands of lights transform an old railroad bridge that spans the Dungeness River on the Olympic Discovery Trail. The Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe puts on this sparkling show, which glitters from mid-November through January. Visit to see the best Christmas lights on the Olympia Peninsula in Washington.

Why We Love It: It's taken several trips for me to figure out my perfect "weekender bag that's TSA approved," but I've found my perfect carry on with the TOBIQ Colorado 30L.
