If you prefer to do your swimming in a pool, you probably haven't had the best summer this year. But if you're one of the many Washingtonians who loves to find a good old-fashioned natural swimming hole, you're in luck, because we have plenty. And while it's a bold claim to suggest you might be able to take a solo swim anywhere in this state, at Moulton Falls, your odds are actually pretty good.
Moulton Falls is located in Southwest Washington, not far from the city of Vancouver.
But when you find it, you'll truly feel like you're in your own world.
To reach the waterfall and swimming hole, you'll have to earn that cool swim with a 5-mile out-and-back hike.
The Moulton Falls Trail will take you along the side of the Lewis River.
Despite this hiking trail being a bit lengthy for beginners, it's not an overly challenging trek.
The hike is actually ranked as easy on AllTrails.com, with most agreeing it's a nice, pleasant nature walk.
Although there is a road across the river, it is mostly hidden from view.
Better yet, the river masks the road sounds, so you'll enjoy the much more pleasant sounds of nature.

Before long, you'll reach the little watering hole at the base of the waterfall.
And after that hike, it will look extremely inviting.
While you very well could see other swimmers here, if you go on a weekday and in the morning, the odds are in your favor.
Just make sure you don't go alone. There are no lifeguards out here, and the buddy system is best.
The Moulton Falls Trail is truly an underrated treasure.
There's still a little bit of summer left to enjoy, so plan a trip before autumn sets in.
