Point Defiance Park is the picture of peace. It has everything you could ask for in a park: sweeping ocean views, gorgeous forest trails, friendly wildlife, an easy drivable route — and a spooky ghost?
Yes, Point Defiance Park, located in Tacoma, Washington, is one of the most haunted areas in the state. In particular, the ever-popular Five Mile Drive in the park is rumored to be a very haunted road. Drivers have claimed, for the past few decades, they've seen the ghost of a little girl walking the area when the sun sets. The spectral figure is rumored to be the spirit of a girl who was murdered off the road in the 1980s — and ever since this road has been seriously spooking people.
Okay, so Five Mile Drive in Point Defiance Park is a loop you can drive that is absolutely stunning. Look at these views of the sound.
When you opt to take this drive (hiking is available in the interior; the drive just allows you to get a good view of the water), you risk seeing the ghost of a little girl.
Jennifer's killer was finally found nearly decades after her murder in a cold case turn of events. Visitors to the park swear they see Jennifer's ghost, especially at dusk.
They claim they see a young girl leaning on her bike, so they lean in, asking if she needs help. When they see the girl up close though, they realize she has an eerie smile and blank eyes.
Is summer done, or is it late summer still, or am I coping? As much as I love the fleece blanket that is the Pacific Northwest winter, there's no denying the beauty that is a Washington State summer. Though we might bid our sunshine adieu, make no mistake .... there's still time to accomplish a few warm-weather activities!

Whether it's taking up karate or cannon-balling in the pool, I maintain that every adult has an activity or two they'd love to try if they weren't too embarrassed to commit. Mine is digging for fossils and it just so happens that Eastern Washington is home to several rich archeology beds. While the fair weather lasts, pop over to Republic, a button-sized town located alongside breathtaking State Route 20. Here, Stonerose Interpretive Center & Eocene Fossil Site lets regular folks like you and I play archeologist for a day. Best of all, on-site experts will identify whatever fossils you uncover and allow you to take a couple home!
3. Go foraging for mushrooms.

With our verdant forests and proliferate damp, we have the perfect environment for an array of fungal species, delighting chefs and mycologists alike!
