If there is one thing I know for certain, it's that here in Washington, we love our fur babies. As much as we enjoy getting out and exploring the Evergreen State, it's infinitely more fun with our faithful dog by our side. That's why I'm excited to share Paws For A Beer, a dog-friendly tavern where guests are welcome and encouraged to bring their furry friends (we're talking dogs here). It might just be your new favorite hangout.
Paws For A Beer is Bellingham, Washington's first dog-friendly tavern, located at 501 Harris Avenue.
Born out of a desire to provide a safe gathering place for dogs and their human friends, Paws For A Beer is the brainchild of Rylan and Amy Schoen. As dog parents to a high-energy Border Collie Black Lab mix, the Schoens were in search of a place where they could relax and unwind and their pup could run off some of his seemingly endless energy.
Through many brainstorming sessions, a business plan was formed, and the idea for Paws For A Beer was conceived.
So, how does it work? Dog owners purchase a daily, monthly, or yearly dog membership to visit Paws For A Beer's private dog park. Dog membership fees go towards monthly training workshops, doggie treats, play yard toys, maintenance, and upgrades.
As of this writing, dog memberships are as follows: daily memberships for one dog: $5, monthly: $20, yearly: $100. No membership is necessary if you don't have a dog but want to stop by and enjoy a cold brew in the company of canines.
Humans can enjoy a cold, local beer and feast on food truck fare while Fido frolics with his dog buddies in the secure, fenced play yard.
All dogs must be spayed or neutered, well-behaved, healthy, and supervised at all times.
When these simple rules are followed, everyone has a great time making new friends!
After a long week at work, leash up the family dog and head to Paws For A Beer. It's an undeniably win-win experience. You get to enjoy a cold beer in the company of dog lovers, and your dog will have the time of his life! For a complete list of dog park rules, special events, and membership information, visit the Paws For A Beer website. Learn more about the animal groups supported by following the Paws For A Beer Facebook page. Paws For A Beer is open Monday through Friday, 3-9 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 12-9 p.m.
