Washington is home to some of the best Farmers Markets in the nation, in our opinion. Considering all the fresh produce, locally raised meats, beer, wine, and coffee we have access to here, it comes as no surprise that many people prefer to do their shopping that way.
The Olympia Farmers Market is especially fantastic. Not only is it spacious, beautiful, and full of vendors and food court goodies, it's home to the most delicious freshly baked bread in town (and possibly the world).
You'll find the Olympia Farmers Market right in downtown Olympia, 700 Capitol Way N.
The location is impossible to miss and easy to access.
The market has more than 100 vendors and sees around 400,000 visitors each year, so it's always bustling.
This also happens to be one of the only vendor-owned and operated farmers markets in the state.
The vendors here are fantastic, ranging from clothing, jewelry, gifts and accessories to fresh produce and food vendors. They even have a spacious food court!
But if you're looking for the best freshly baked bread ever, you'll want to find Baker/Potter.
Baker/Potter is a small production wood-fired bakery, potter, and grain mill in the woods of Washington.
While the pottery is beautiful, the bread recipes are absolutely flawless.
So... what makes this bread the best? The answer is simple: it's because they keep things simple.
They start by sourcing grain locally from the best possible sources, then mill the grain in-house. The grain is then hand-mixed, slowly fermented using wild yeast, and baked in a wood-fired oven. The result is bread that tends to sell out extremely fast at the Olympia Farmers Market. You can sometimes find it at Eastside Olympia Food Co-op as well.
The Olympia Farmers Market is open all year, although hours vary by season.
The next time you're in the area, stop by and sample some of the best bread on Earth.
