Who doesn't love a good waterfall trail? Today's feature destination promises not just one but several glorious cascades that can be reached in a single trip. Tucked away in Shenandoah National Park, Rose River Falls Loop is a route that will lead you past many exciting water features. Rose River Falls is a 4-mile loop that showcases some of the loveliest scenery in Shenandoah National Park.
To access the trail, you'll want to park at the Fishers Gap Overlook and head north. After crossing Skyline Drive — fortunately, there's a crosswalk — you'll see the Rose River Fire Road. Take the fire road for approximately 50 feet, and you'll see a trail veering to the left. This will be the starting point of the loop.

The trail intersects with the Appalachian Trail and other Shenandoah National Park trails, but you'll always have helpful guideposts along the way to keep you on track.
At times, the stream is within a few feet of the trail. At other times, it's more distant, but you'll still hear the peaceful sounds of the flowing water.
While it's a beautiful trail, hikers should note that it's not considered easy. There's an elevation change of nearly 1,500 feet, so be sure to take plenty of opportunities to rest and hydrate along the way.
On a hot summer's day, you might even soak your feet in the stream or go for a quick dip. Just be mindful of any posted warning signs indicating that swimming is not allowed in certain areas. And, as always, be sure to leave the trail even more beautiful than you found it.

For anyone looking to reconnect with nature, this trail is it. At a little over a mile in length, out and back, you'll have a relatively short jaunt through the forested area, hit a waterfall, and head back with a memorable walk and hopefully some incredible photos, too.
Since this trail is considered relatively easy and has minimal elevation changes, it’s accessible for hikers of all levels and a great option for families. You’ll walk through a charming mix of oak, hickory, and pine trees, and if you go in the spring or summer, wildflowers and ferns brighten the path with color.
The trail has a few gentle creek crossings and some rocky spots that add a little variety without being too difficult, making it ideal if you want something relaxing yet still engaging. Wildlife is part of the experience, too—you might spot white-tailed deer, box turtles, and even a few scattered salamanders along the way. Plus, the route starts at the Fenwick Mines Trailhead and heads south to a viewing area of a beautiful waterfall! How cool is that?!

Why We Love It: It's taken several trips for me to figure out my perfect "weekender bag that's TSA approved," but I've found my perfect carry on with the TOBIQ Colorado 30L.
