There's nothing more instantly soothing than quality time spent outdoors, especially in a state as beautiful as Virginia. If you're in need of something of an escape from your daily routine, no place will provide a breath of fresh air like Roaring Run Trail in Botetourt County. Not only is this trail in pristine National Forests, but it also happens to feature wildflowers and a waterfall.
Roaring Run Falls Trail is one of the most beautiful in the area, complete with well-marked paths, creeks, falls, flowers, and a unique historical touch. Photographed above is the historic 19th-century iron furnace that was in use before the Civil War.
The trail can easily be made into a 1.5-mile loop, as 2 separate paths both lead to the Roaring Run creek. Most hikers enjoy following the stream side trail towards the falls and then returning along the Woodland Trail.
After the two trails juncture, you will find a quick 1/10 mile spur that leads directly towards Roaring Run Falls. This unique waterfall creates a series of pools as the water tumbles down the creek.
This sound of cascading water will make for the most tranquil resting stop during your hike. There's something so rewarding about a trail that leads directly towards a waterfall, and then allows you to continue along a completely different scenic path.
The Woodland Trail is equally as stunning. Your troubles will melt away as you gaze up towards the sky and notice your towering green surroundings. As you may have noticed in the photographs, the Roaring Run Falls Trail is simply stunning any time of year.
