Virginia is home to countless beautiful waterfalls. Some are easy to access, while others require a bit of hiking. While both have their advantages, sometimes it can be fun to discover the cascades that seem to be hiding in plain sight. One of our favorites is located at the Maymont Japanese Garden in Richmond, VA. It’s a man-made waterfall set behind a beautiful bridge, offering a fairytale-like setting to those who visit. Here’s more on the easy-to-access waterfall in Virginia that’s hiding in plain sight.
If you've never had the chance to visit Maymont in Richmond, you'll want to plan a trip to this beautiful property soon.
This 100-acre historic site is comprised of breathtaking gardens, wildlife habitats, an arboretum, nature center, and more.
Today's special destination can be found in the beautiful Japanese Garden. This naturalistic garden is actually the oldest public Japanese Garden on the East Coast!
As you cross the bridge into the garden, you won't help but feel an extraordinary sense of peace and reverence for the wildness and beauty of this place.
Many of the elements of the Japanese Garden date back over 100 years, when Maymont was privately-owned by the Dooley family. The stunning waterfall and surrounding stonework is one of them.
Though the waterfall is manmade, it is no less splendid than any others you'll find in Virginia. Watching it cascade is an almost meditative experience.
So if you're in Richmond looking for a beautiful waterfall excursion, you'll be happy to have found this one hiding in plain sight!
