Long hikes in Virginia are often rewarded with incredible mountain views. Yet today, we'd like to introduce you to a relatively easy trail that yields one of the best mountain views in the state. Here's more on this short-and-sweet path that promises a memorable day hike in Virginia.
Just outside of Roanoke, Virginia awaits a trail and overlook that relatively few know about. Hanging Rock Trail is a hidden gem in southern Virginia, and those who venture there are rewarded with an incredible mountain overlook.
The parking lot is located about two miles into the Shawvers Run Wilderness. Follow the signs for the Hanging Rock Overlook.
The trail itself will lead you through the woods and, within less than 0.5 miles, you'll arrive at one of the most spectacular mountain overlooks in the region.
Thanks to legislation in 2009 that added land to the protected area, this land is preserved for the enjoyment and education of hikers and visitors alike. With that in mind, always be sure to share the trail and leave it better than you found it!
Standing near the breathtaking rock formation, you'll enjoy an unparalleled view of Craig County.
For those who venture to climb to the top of the rocky outcrop, the view will be all the more dramatic. Just be sure to wear sturdy shoes and be mindful of your footing.
And while the trail is beautiful during any season, there's no denying the mesmerizing effect that the fall colors have on the view below.
