Here in Virginia, there is no shortage of unique accommodations to enjoy. Today, we'll introduce you to one that stands out for its fascinating history. Located in Lynchburg, the Craddock Terry Hotel once served as a shoe factory. The Craddock Terry Shoe Company was established in 1888 and, during its peak, was the fifth largest shoe company in the world. When the building was eventually renovated to serve its current purpose as a beautiful hotel, the intention was to honor the building's unique past. Visit today and you'll see how this has been achieved.
The Craddock Terry Hotel in Lynchburg is hard to miss; with a bright-red high-heel on the side of the building, the property is an iconic landmark in Lynchburg.
The hotel sits inside the former Craddock Terry Shoe Company, which opened in 1905 as the Craddock Terry Southland Annex. Inside this building, 2,500 women's shoes were made each day.
Fast forward to 2007, when the original factory was converted and restored into a beautiful hotel. The result is a beautiful boutique hotel with a one-of-a-kind history.
Each room boasts beautiful architecture and much of the original factory feel. Plus, you'll find thoughtful details that harken back to the original function of the building, such as a continental breakfast delivered to each room on an old wooden shoe box.
Structural details like exposed brick, wood-beam ceilings, and nine-foot-tall windows offer an industrial yet cozy atmosphere.
In addition to its function as a boutique accommodation, the Craddock Terry Hotel also features a lively bar and two restaurants: Shoemakers Grille and Waterstone Pizza.
So the next time you're looking to book a stay at a one-of-a-kind hotel with loads of history, you'll want to consider a trip to Lynchburg.
