Living in a state that houses so many incredible restaurants, we Virginians often have the privilege of enjoying award-winning dining within miles of home. Yet sometimes, the restaurants that are seemingly in the middle of nowhere prove the most rewarding. Not only do they show you different corners of the state, but they also have food that makes the journey completely worthwhile. One such case is Cul’s Courthouse Grille. Located in Charles City, this historic building offers some the finest fare in the area.
Amidst several notable plantations along Route 5 and the Virginia Capital Trail, Courthouse Grill is popular among cyclists but otherwise, relatively unknown.
Its exact address is 10801 Courthouse Road, Charles City VA 23030.
The restaurant has an extensive history, beginning in 1872 when it was the Nance-Major General Store providing agricultural supplies, dry goods, and other sundries.
In 2009, the store was renovated to become Cul’s Courthouse Grille as it stands today.
Step inside this charming establishment and you’ll be greeted with friendly service, a down-home atmosphere, and a tasty, local menu.
Open for lunch and dinner, this spot is known for its southern cuisine. Some favorites include the chicken salad, fried green tomatoes, and reuben sandwich served with homemade chips.
Grilled to perfection, the Courthouse burger and fries is another crowd pleaser.
You’ll definitely want to save room for the restaurant’s most beloved dessert: the homemade coconut cake. This decadent sweet alone is worth the trip!
