Nestled in Rockbridge County, Lexington is a gorgeous mountain town with an impressive history and even more impressive landscape.
If you're looking for a way to immerse yourself in this gorgeous scenery, you might try a hike on the Chessie Nature Trail.
Measuring seven miles in length, this scenic rail-trail is situated along the former Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad path. As you hike, you can't help but notice the gorgeous and peaceful scenery surrounding the trail.
For a majority of its length, the Chessie follows the Maury River. The ambiance of the flowing water will add even more magic to your outdoor adventure.
While it is open for public use, the trail doesn't offer any sort of facilities, so visitors should plan accordingly. Be sure to pack water and keep on the lookout for ticks during warmer seasons.
The trail is especially scenic in the fall when there's a slight chill in the air and you can admire the changing leaves.
At the end of the trail, you'll reach another gorgeous mountain town, Buena Vista. As its name implies, this authentic rural Virginia town features lovely mountain views for as far as the eye can see.
