Who doesn't love an excuse to get out and explore all that Virginia has to offer? Today's inspiration is none other than Bald Knob Trail, a lovely little hike that leads to exquisite mountain views in just under a mile. Along the way, prepare to be amazed by the scenery and wildlife you'll encounter. Here's more on what you can expect when you hike Bald Knob Trail in the Jefferson National Forest.
Tucked away in Giles County of southwestern Virginia, Bald Knob is an outdoor adventure that could impress anyone.
To reach the Bald Knob Parking Lot, you'll take Mountain Lake Road (VA-700) for 7 miles and you'll find a gravel parking lot near the intersection of VA-613 and Mountain Lake Outfitters.
The trail may be short, but it's by no means an easy excursion. In just 0.4 miles, you'll gain nearly 500 feet in elevation!
There's no need to rush, though. Take your time as you climb and be sure to stop and notice all the lovely scenery along the way. The forest is filled with wildflowers in the spring, summer, and early fall.
You'll have reached the summit in no time. Bald Knob resides at an elevation of 4,300 feet above sea level, and the views of the New River Valley are simply unparalleled.
In fact, Bald Knob is considered to be one of the best places to watch the sunset in the region.
So the next time you're looking for a short-and-sweet adventure (and one that will likely break a sweat!), Bald Knob is the place to be.
