Do you love a good bargain? If so, you might be a regular thrift-store shopper. It's always amazing to see the items that people donate - everything from brand new shoes to cast-iron skillets that can easily be restored to last a lifetime. Goodwill has stores all over New England, and it has a few special "Buy the Pound" warehouses. There's one opening in Williston, Vermont soon, and you're going to want to check it out:
This nondescript building might not be very impressive, but wait til you see what they're setting up inside!
This space is soon going to be the home of Goodwill Buy the Pound in Williston, Vermont.
It's connected to the regular retail thrift store that's been there for quite awhile, but it will be a vastly different shopping experience. In fact, Goodwill says that shopping at their Buy the Pound stores is "Extreme Thrifting."
The new store will have a soft opening on September 27, 2019, and a Grand Opening on October 12, 2019. Here's what to expect...
You'll find tons of big, blue bins placed in rows in this warehouse-style store.
The bins are full of items that were originally donated at a retail store. They were offered for sale there for several weeks, then transferred to a Buy the Pound location for a final chance to go to a new home. Items that aren't sold at Buy the Pound are donated to other charities, often in locations around the world.
The bins are rotated 10 at a time, every hour or so.
During rotation, customers must stand behind a red line for safety. Once old bins are removed and new ones brought in, you'll get the go-ahead to dig through to find bargains.
This method of bargain-hunting is much more work than just browsing through neatly-organized aisles in one of Goodwill's retail stores, but you'll be rewarded with merchandise that's sold at a steep discount.
At just a couple dollars a pound for clothing, a shirt could cost as little as 10 cents!
The items are organized into general categories, so if you're looking for something specific, you'll at least have an idea of where it might be.
Some folks come here to find things for personal use; others come to find items that can be re-sold on eBay or other sites for a profit. Either way, your purchases help Goodwill fund its charitable projects.
The new Williston Buy the Pound Goodwill store will be open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
