Halloween is just around the corner! While October 31st is the more traditional day of trick-or-treating, don't let that stop you from getting your spooks on the days leading up to it. Rutland is home to one of the most storied and largest Halloween parades in Vermont, and it's an event you won't want to miss out on!
This year will be the 60th anniversary of the Rutland Halloween Parade.
The Rutland Halloween Parade first kicked off in the streets of Rutland back in 1959. Officials say that it is one of the largest and longest-running Halloween parades in all of Vermont.
The parade starts at Madison Street & Strongs Avenue and ends at the plaza.
Spectators will start to line up the streets at 5:30 p.m., but the parade doesn't officially kick off until 6:30 p.m.
Each year, awards are given to the most spirited floats.
These awards include Most Original, Best In Parade, and Most Creative.
The marching bands will keep you up on your feet dancing the whole parade.
In addition to the parade, there's also a 5k race the morning of the parade.
The Halloween Running Scared 5k is open to runners of all levels! Race participants are encouraged to dress in costumes as they toe the line for this fun run that takes place the morning of the parade. Cost to run is only $5 when you pre-register and $10 on the day of the race.
For a wickedly good time, head over to the Halloween Parade in Rutland.
Cost of admission is free and kids of all ages are welcome! Costumes are highly encouraged, but certainly not required. And with it being the 60th anniversary of the parade, this year's is sure to be a good one with some surprises.
