Utah is home to some enchanting places to visit. In fact, many of these unique destinations are just like something out of a storybook. One of our favorite magical places to visit is the Fairy Forest in Utah. This area is located near the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway and looks like a charming place where fairies live. Exploring the Fairy Forest is one of the most unique — and delightful — things to do outside in Utah.
The Fairy Forest can be a little tricky to find. You will want to take the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway to the Shady Dell Campground. You will find the trailhead to the forest near campsite #7.
The Fairy Forest Trail is not your typical hiking trail in Utah. But it is beautiful and nestled in the mountains, so you will feel tucked away from the world.

You do have to cross a small river to reach the Fairy Forest. There are logs and large rocks to help you remain dry while crossing, but be aware that in late spring, you may encounter a swift-flowing river, making it difficult to cross and visit the forest.
After the water crossing, you will have just a short hike to reach the Fairy Forest and you’ll immediately know once you’ve arrived. The forest features thousands of painted rocks, fairy houses, and more.
There are also multiple paths that will take you all around the fairy homes and encampments. Take your time and admire each one — you never know what you will find and the small details are quite fun to spot!
In years past, the Fairy Forest was once decorated with all sorts of unique habitats, but major clean-up projects have taken place to remove foreign objects in the forest. It is encouraged not to add to the Fairy Forest but to simply admire the area as is.
Despite the heavy clean-up efforts, you will still find enchanting, natural habitats for the fairies in this forest. It's certainly a Utah destination that is one of a kind.

Hike Snow Canyon State Park’s Scout Cave Trail in Utah for an Unforgettable Adventure
In my opinion, one of the best hikes in Utah is the Scout Cave Trail at Snow Canyon State Park. It's open all year, not super challenging, and showcases views that are almost too breathtaking to be real.
Utah is a nature lover's dream, and we're blessed with some of the best hiking trails in the country. It just doesn't get much better than our vast canyons and stunning rock formations. I could spend the rest of my life hiking in the Beehive State and still get excited about hitting the trail each day! In my opinion, one of the best hikes in Utah is the Scout Cave Trail at Snow Canyon State Park. It's open all year, not super challenging, and showcases views that are almost too breathtaking to be real. Plus, it's kid and pet-friendly!
Scout Cave Trail is a 3.4-mile out-and-back hike that passes over lava flow fields, Navajo Sandstone rocks, and stream beds. Although it's rated as intermediate on AllTrails, most hikers describe it as being easy, so you definitely don't need to be super skilled. The elevation gain is about 350 feet, and just a few moderate climbing sections make up the bulk of it. You're unlikely to get lost because the trail is very well-marked, and the variation in terrain makes for an interesting adventure from start to finish.
By far the coolest part of the trail (and the main reason anyone hikes it in the first place) is Scout Cave. It's located right before the turnaround point and showcases unbelievable panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and the city below. You can actually go inside the cave, which makes this trail a favorite among kiddos.
Shade is minimal, so if you're visiting in the summer, you'll definitely want to wear a hat and load up on sunscreen. Getting started early in the morning also helps with the temperature issue - although the views at sunset are equally as mesmerizing. You should also bring plenty of water and a snack or two, and make sure you have durable footwear for the rock scrambling sections of the trail (however brief they may be).

Why We Love It: It's taken several trips for me to figure out my perfect "weekender bag that's TSA approved," but I've found my perfect carry on with the TOBIQ Colorado 30L.
