Utah has 647 lakes. Some of them are pretty. Some of them are really quite ugly (I just can’t lie). And some of them are really, really gorgeous. Here are just 10 of the lakes in our state that are so beautiful that they’re often photographed.
1) Flaming Gorge
Stunning sandstone cliffs line this large reservoir, popular for fishing and recreation.
2) Lake Blanche
A popular destination for hikers, Lake Blanche is often photographed because of its rugged beauty.
3) Bear Lake
Limestone deposits give this lake its unique blue-green shade. It’s been called the "Caribbean of the Rockies."
4) Lake Powell
This large lake is perfect for recreation. Houseboat vacation, anyone?
5) Mirror Lake
So many photos prove that this lake IS like a mirror.
6) Great Salt Lake
Sometimes it’s angry and grey, like the Atlantic Ocean. Sometimes it’s smelly (really smelly). But sometimes, it’s beautiful.
7) Silver Lake
This lake is beautiful and very accessible for all Utah residents - visitors park in a parking lot and walk around a boardwalk to enjoy it.
8) Secret Lake
Also called "Cecret Lake," this pretty lake is surrounded by wildflowers in the spring and fall foliage during autumn months.
