As the weather starts to cool off and the leaves start to change color, it's time to plan some fall hikes. The Bloods Lake Trail was renovated just this summer, and it's a short journey to a pretty lake. Fit it into your hiking plans soon - the road to the trailhead closes in November.
The trail to Bloods Lake was recently renovated, thanks to a private donor. It's a two-mile-long trail that's kid and dog-friendly, and perfect for a fall hike.
To reach the trailhead, take Guardsman Pass to a well-marked parking lot.
This trail is at a high elevation, but because you already climbed the pass in your car, you're starting out at around 9,800 feet, so your elevation gain during the hike is only about 100 feet.
High above Park City Resort to the east, and Brighton Resort to the west, this trail is situated right in the middle of some of the prettiest scenery in the state.
Allow yourself a few hours for this adventure, especially if you plan to play or picnic at the lake. The air up here is fresh and clean, and the temperatures are typically 10-15 degrees cooler than the valley below.
Bring your pup along with you! While he can't hike in Big Cottonwood Canyon, he is welcome on this trail, starting from Guardsman Pass. Make sure to clean up after him, of course.
When the leaves start to turn, this place is particularly pretty. Bring your camera along to capture the bright hues that disappear in Utah all too quickly.
Bloods Lake is a sweet little lake that also boasts a rope swing for summer swimming.
This trail is easy enough for most kids to tackle, and it's a pleasant hike. The trail often has snow on it until mid-summer, and you'll want to make sure you get your hike in before November, when Guardsman Pass closes for the winter.
