The Route
This road trip covers 229 miles and the drive time is a little under five hours. But you'll want to allow plenty of extra time to do a little hiking and take some photos – it’s a beautiful trip!
1. Wyalusing State Park
Vistas don’t get any better than the ones you’ll find in this park along the Mississippi. Allow plenty of time to enjoy the view - you may have a hard time breaking away.
2. Devils Lake State Park
This popular park near Baraboo has it all – amazing trails that lead to rock formations, a beautiful lake and towering rocky bluffs. Allow enough time here to go for a little hike.
3. Mirror Lake State Park
When you see the lake, you’ll understand the name. On some days, Mirror Lake is so calm you can see your reflection. You’ll find the lake in a 2,100-acre state park near the Wisconsin Dells.
4. Horicon Marsh National Wildlife Refuge
This 21,000-acre natural area near Horicon offers sweeping vistas and the chance to see enormous flocks of migratory birds. Bring your binoculars!
5. Harrington Beach State Park
This trip ends on a magnificent Lake Michigan beach in the town of Belgium. Relax on the shoreline or stretch your legs on one of the park’s tranquil hiking paths.
