There are plenty of wonderful spots all across the state that kick it into high gear as the calendar and weather turn to fall, but one of the very best spots to spend your Autumn is Wausau.

With tons of gorgeous outdoor spots as well as orchards, a corn maze, a pumpkin patch, haunted houses and harvest fairs, there's no way you could be bored. There's something for everyone, so start planning ahead for a fall trip to Wausau. Here are just some of the things you can find to do there this Autumn:

Gorgeous Rib Mountain State Park is a wonderful place for a brisk fall hike. And the observation tower offers some of the best views out over the foliage anywhere in the state.

But if doing all that manual labor and climbing yourself isn't your speed, you can head over to Granite Peak and use their ski lift for a chance to peep all the trees changing colors. Open on Saturdays and Sunday from September 23 to October 15, for just $11 (cash only) round trip, you can take a casual ride up and down the mountain and check out all the amazing views.

Rivers Edge Parkway is an awesome paved trail right along the Wisconsin River and through downtown Wausau. Stroll at your own pace and take in both the rushing river and the surrounding foliage. It's a perfect spot for all ages.

Wausau has its very own paranormal society and these folks offer super interesting haunted walking tours on three Saturdays in October. Tours are about 90 minutes long and take off every 15 minutes from 6 pm to 7:30 pm. Tickets are $5.

Over in nearby Edgar, Rock Ridge Orchard has about a dozen varieties of apples that you can pick yourself or pick up pre-picked. They've also got caramel apples, pastries and more.

Willow Springs Garden goes all out in the fall with a corn maze, haunted maze, horse rides, petting zoo, pumpkins and so much more.

Celebrate Oktoberfest at Bull Falls Brewery with the tasty brews. Sign up for a brewery tour or plan to hang around and watch a Packer game.

If getting the stuffing scared out of you is your cup of tea, plan a short jaunt up to Merrill for a visit to the Haunted Sawmill. They took the year off in 2016 but return in 2017 to continue as a fundraiser for Boy Scout troops in the area. Tickets are $10 and they re-open October 13th.

Harvest Fest takes place on October 7th in the heart of downtown Wausau. Carve a pumpkin, take a carriage ride, participate in arts and crafts and get lunch from a food truck at this awesome Wausau fall festival.

You might find yourself spending a full day at Wilke's Dairy Farm and Extra Sweet Acres. They've got a 10 acre corn maze and pick-your-own-pumpkin patch, for starters. They also have hay rides, a children's play area and bounce house and more. They are open Monday-Thursday from 3 pm til 7 pm, Friday 3 pm til 9 pm, Saturday from 9 am til 9 pm and Sunday from 10 am til 6 pm.

Monk Botanical Gardens get into the fall spirit with AutumnFest on September 30 from 11 am til 3 pm. Admission is free. They'll have free pumpkins, food and all kinds of family fun.

On of the most unique geological points in Wisconsin are the Dells of the Eau Claire in Wausau. The rocky outcrops make for interesting viewing and pictures and the place comes alive with color in the fall.
