It's a new year, and many of us are thinking of the exciting things we want to do this year. For many of us, this includes going on an awesome vacation. The good news is that you don't have to spend a ton of money--or even leave the state--to go on a great vacation. Here are some vacations that everyone from Wisconsin should take.
1. Door County
If you plan on seeing much of the county, definitely plan on staying for a few days. Starting at the bottom of the county, you can check out Sturgeon Bay, a vacation in its own right, with plenty of shops and attractions like The Farm. Fish Creek and Egg Harbor offer plenty of shopping and dining opportunities. Head even farther up, and you can see some of the best beaches in Wisconsin.
2. The American Club Resort
This resort isn't exactly cheap, but it's not cheap for a reason: it's first-class. This is truly a place to come when you just need to relax. Play some golf, get a spa treatment, and eat delicious food night after night. You won't want to leave.
3. Apostle Islands
Certainly there are plenty of places to get outside and explore in Wisconsin. But none is as pretty as the Apostle Islands, a chain of 21 islands at the top of the state. Just look at how gorgeous these formations are. You can take a kayak out on the water and actually navigate through the caves. Bayfield, a town just nearby, is a wonderful place to spend the night if you are anti-camping.
4. Wisconsin Dells
When people think Wisconsin Dells, they think water parks. Well, rightfully so, because there is a huge concentration of parks and rides. But that's not all there is. There is a spa for the grown ups, Wizard Quest, and even the Wisconsin Deer Park, where you can pet deer.
5. Cave of the Mounds
Who said vacations needed to be above ground? It may be a little dark in here, but Cave of the Mounds certainly is worth the trip. You will be astounded by the rock formations in this area of Wisconsin, both above and below ground.
6. Madison
Plenty of Wisconsin kids make the trip to Madison to see the capitol. But there's so much more to the town than that. There are loads of excellent restaurants, shops, and activities. It is particularly good to go when there is a festival going on, or during tailgating. If you like large crowds, you have to come here for Halloween at least once.
7. Green Bay
Green Bay is known for the Green Bay Packers, but there is much more to this town than the team. Depending on when you go, you can catch a game, a practice, or just tour the stadium. Many new restaurants have been established in Green Bay proper, as well as nearby towns like Ashwaubenon and Suamico. The National Railroad Museum is another favorite for tourists.
8. Lake Geneva
Located in southeastern Wisconsin, Lake Geneva is a favorite destination of people from that state down south, but many Wisconsinites also visit. Staying in a nice bed and breakfast is always a nice part of visiting. Roam down the streets and stop in shops and get an ice cream cone. Head out onto the water for tubing or take an architecture tour on a cruise ship.
