When you’re driving through Wisconsin, you’re never far from a good slice of pie – the state is filed with wonderful little bakeries that turn out wonderful versions of this traditional treat. Everyone has a favorite pie: an apple with a buttery crust, an impossibly creamy French silk, or perhaps a warm four-berry pie that’s begging for a little vanilla ice cream. Feeling hungry? Here’s a pie shop road trip that will take you to some of the very best bakeries in Wisconsin.
The Route
This route will take less than three hours to complete but allow plenty of time to pay the restaurants a visit and order some pie!
1. Elsie Mae’s Canning and Pies, Kenosha
We’ll start this road trip in a wonderful little Kenosha shop uses local produce and family recipes to preserve traditional style baking and canning. The shop knows its producers and its craft and the results are sublime!
2. Lake Geneva Pie Company
The second stop on this ultimate pie trip takes to the tourist town of Lake Geneva. The Lake Geneva Pie Company wows diners with old fashioned pies that are made from scratch using only the freshest ingredients. They sell by the slice or by the pie!
3. Poyer’s Farm Market, Fort Atkinson
In the heart of Fort Atkinson, there’s a farm market that sells beautiful flowers and fresh vegetables. But many customers come just for the pie - it's made from scratch and delicious!
4. Monty’s Blue Plate Diner, Madison
The tour takes us next to the east Madison Atwood neighborhood. Monty’s Blue Plate Diner is a popular spot for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but some never make it past the loaded pie case!
5. Norske Nook, Deforest
The final stop on this pie trip is a Wisconsin classic. The Norske Nook’s awesome pies helped put Osseo on the map and they’ve expanded to a DeForest location. If you haven’t had your fill of pie yet, just jump on the highway and put Osseo in your GPS. That shop is also a must-visit and hey, there’s always room for more pie, right?
