Trempealeau, Wisconsin is a town in western Wisconsin along the Mississippi River. Its population is about 1600. Its name gets frequently mispronounced. But it has some of the absolute best views in the state, and you should definitely check it out. Here are some of the things that you can find in Trempealeau.
1. Train buffs won't be able to get enough.
Trains go through this town frequently, and this makes train watching one of the most relaxing things to do up here, as they come by the river and gorgeous scenery.
2. You will definitely want to check out Trempealeau Mountain.
At 425 feet tall, this mountain was used as a navigational device by steamboat captains.
3. Native American mounds, burial sites, and habitation sites are all over this mountain.
But the name is French: it derives from "la montagne qui trempe à l’eau" meaning "the mountain whose foot is bathed in water."
4. Certainly, you will want to hike through Perrot State Park.
This park is over 1200 acres and some of its great features include 500 foot steep limestone bluffs with incredible views of the Mississippi.
5. After all that hiking, make sure to unwind at Elmaro.
You really might feel like you are in Napa. Besides the delicious wines, you can get all sorts of educational training. They also have live music at times or feature other artists.
6. When the apples are out, hang out with the family at Ecker's Apple Farm.
This family owned and operated farm has over 25 varieties of apples that you can pick, and apple products such as caramel apple pies (made in-house).
7. For a good meal, head to the River Cafe.
River Cafe is a favorite among locals for their delicious breakfast and awesome lunch offerings.
8. Spend the night at a place with a great view: the Trempealeau Hotel.
Did we mention they also have a phenomenal dinner? They've also got awesome live music.
